General Program Description

Clinical Experiences
Upon completion of the course, the student receives college credits through the CCAF and is subsequently assigned to a military medical facility where they will work under the supervision of a qualified physical therapist. The college credit received from the basic course, combined with credits earned through additional military education, on-the-job- training, and off-duty civilian education, qualify the student for the award of the PTA degree through CCAF. On average, the degree is obtained in a span of 4-6 years of active-duty service.
Faculty
There are 14 full-time and part-time faculty members. Seven of the full-time faculty are engaged in clinical practice. The faculty to student ratio is 1:4.
Enrollment
The physical therapist assistant program, through the CCAF, accepts approximately 50 students in each class for a total of 150 students per year (3 classes per year).
Admission
All students entered into the program must be active-duty, enlisted members of the military or a selected reserve member in the military. (a local recruiter can discuss entrance procedures and opportunities for possible selection in a specific career field such as physical therapy). The basic physical therapy assistant course is 16 weeks in length and includes the subjects of anatomy, physiology, psychology, kinesiology, applied physical therapy procedures and modalities, administration, communication, and ethics.
