General Program Description
The program is a two-year integrated format. Beginning in 2012, the college will convert to semesters and the fall class begins August, ending in May. There is a cohort of students on the main campus in Dayton as well as a second cohort at the Courseview Campus in Mason, Ohio. Students spend between 10-20 hours in class per week depending on the semester. These hours do not include clinical hours. Graduation is in May of each year, beginning in 2013.
Clinical Experiences
Students experience more than 600 hours in various clinical settings commencing in the second year of the program. The 2 clinical experiences are forty hours per week for eight weeks. These clinical settings are located in Dayton, Springfield, Cincinnati, Columbus and suburban and rural/urban areas including, but not limited to, hospitals, rehabilitation units, outpatient clinics, and extended care facilities.
Faculty
Faculty members are licensed Physical Therapists and Physical Therapists Assistants with a wide variety of clinical experience.
Enrollment
Total enrollment for the college is approximately 24,000 (60% female, 40% male). The program accepts 28 students on the main campus and 22 student at the Courseview Campus in Mason, in the fall of each year.
Admission
Admission to the program occurs with the completion of prerequisite coursework. A new class is chosen annually following an audit in the spring of all previous coursework, including completion of a program application and the prerequisites. This information is available at the sinclair.edu website.
Outcomes
67% of admitted students graduate from the program (5-year average). 100% of students graduating and licensed are employed within 6 months of graduation.
Tuition, fees and financial aid
Tuition, fees and textbooks are approximately $7,000 for a 2-year period for students in Montgomery County, Ohio and approximately $10,000 for students in Ohio from outside Montgomery County. Institutional and federal funding is available to the students. Scholarships and grants are awarded to students by area hospitals and organizations. Student life
The campus is composed of 21 buildings in Dayton immediately accessible from the I-75 highway. The closest cities in proximity to Dayton are Cincinnati and Columbus. The airport is 20 minutes from the college, and public transportation is readily available. There are Distance Learning Courses available for general education coursework. Three additional learning centers are available to students in suburban areas served by the college. There are a wide variety of student services ranging from counseling, financial aid, leadership and honors clubs and career development. SCC also sponsors sports teams competing in regional competitions. The Learning Resource Center is a state of the art library, tutorial lab, classrooms and study center located centrally in the college. There are additional tutorial and computer labs across the college, including access to computer labs with technical assistance on weekends. The technology help desk is also available Monday-Saturday.
