General Program Description

Clinical Experiences
Clinical experiences include 720 clinical hours divided into integrated and full-time experiences in acute care, rehabilitation, pediatrics, geriatrics, sports medicine, and outpatient settings throughout the state of Michigan with a concentration in the mid-Michigan area.

Faculty
There are two full-time faculty members. One of the full-time faculty members is engaged in clinical practice. The faculty to student ratio is 1:20.

Enrollment
The college has a total enrollment of 10,000 equally divided between men and women. The physical therapist assistant program has an enrollment of 20 students per class. The college accepts transfer students.

Admission
The academic/clinical program consists of 4 semesters (Fall/Winter, Fall/Winter). Students are accepted after completion of prerequisites. These can be completed in one semester if the student chooses to do so. The following prerequisite course work is required: 2 semester hours of medical terminology; 3 semester hours of interpersonal communications; 3 semester hours of college composition; 3 semester hours of applied or general psychology; and 5-8 semester hours of anatomy and physiology. Additional semester hours of general education requirements may also be required but can be taken with the courses in the physical therapist assistant clinical program. The student must receive a “C” average in the prerequisites and a minimum of a “B” in anatomy & physiology. Forty hours of observation with a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant is also required prior to validation. Applications are validated at the end of each semester. Eligible applicants will be registered in the summer prior to fall entry. Transfer students are accepted. The average grade point average of students admitted to the program has been 3.0. The average age of applicants is 28; 85% female and 15% male. 100% of qualified applicants are admitted to the program (3-year average).

Outcomes
78% of admitted students graduate from the program (3-year average).

Tuition, fees and financial aid
For the academic year, in-district tuition is $94.50 per credit hour, out-of-district tuition is $154 per credit hour, and out-of-state tuition is $299 per credit hour. There is a $40 registration fee per semester and all classes have a course fee. The average cost for books per semester is $200. Ninety percent of the students receive financial aid and also hold part-time jobs. Student life
Off-campus rentals are plentiful. The counties of Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland surround the college. Multiple cultural events are offered. If you are a sports enthusiast, you will enjoy the area.
