General Program Description
The Fox College PTA program is an 18 month, 5 semester program. The program is a full-time, day program. Students who have successfully completed the program will be eligible to sit for the national physical therapy exam (NPTE) for the physical therapist assistant and licensure in most states.
Clinical Experiences
Students in the Fox College PTA program complete two observation experience as part of the programs Professional Issues courses. Students complete two 8 week clinical experiences in term 7 and term 9 of the program. The clinical experiences are designed to integrate theory and skills in the classroom learning into hands-on clinical practice. With each clinical experience, students are expected to demonstrate competency of their clinical skills and responsibilities within the scope of practice for the PTA. Students are responsible for all costs associated with clinical experiences and observation which may include but are not limited to cost of travel and parking, required uniform, criminal background check, and health screening/physical.Faculty
The Fox College PTA program includes five full – time faculty and 1 lab assistants. One full – time faculty member serves as the PTA Program Director and one serves as the Director of Clinical Education. Most full-time faculty remain involved in limited clinical practice. The maximum faculty to student ration for lab based courses is 1:20.Enrollment
The Fox College PTA program accepts 40 students in March and September each year.Admission
The basic requirement for admission to Fox College is graduation from a high school, private school, or equivalent (GED). Applicants are admitted for enrollment on the basis of previous scholastic records as evidenced by a transcript of work completed in high school or college. If a high school transcript reflects a GPA of less than 2.5 (4.0 scale) or if the applicant earned a GED, a writing sample and other information from an interview with an admissions representative may also be considered. In addition to the basic academic requirements applicants to the PTA program will be expected to complete a minimum of 15 hours of observation in 2 different clinical settings and an essay on the role of the physical therapist assistant in healthcare.Outcomes
For years 2011-2013, three-year averages are as follows: 71.5% of admitted students graduated from the program; 90.6% of graduates passed the licensure exam; and 98% of graduates who were seeking employment were employed at six months after graduation.Tuition, fees and financial aid
