It’s a tragic unfortunality that for many professions within the medical community, some injury or illness must first occur before an issue or positive comes to light. This story originally broke on PEOPLE Magazine with “Former Bachelorette Star J.P. Rosenbaum Diagnosed with Rare Guillain-Barré Syndrome.”
Most in the Physical Therapy community know body’s Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in the adult neurologic rehabilitation population — in short, it’s an errant immune system response that attacks the body’s peripheral nervous system. The symptoms vary, but can range from weakness to complete paralysis of the body. Recover from this condition varies just as much, from an academic loss of reflexes to sparse recovery at best. Unfortunately for Mr. Rosenbaum, it seems that this one hit him on the more severe side of the spectrum.
The reality star stated that:
There is “a lot of physical therapy in my future.”
In the article, he further shared that:
“I feel pretty much the same as I have all day, which I think is a good sign,” he explained. “From what I’m, told, my symptoms have hopefully plateaued and not gotten any worse, then hopefully I’m on the road to recovery.”
“I’ve heard from a lot of people and I know that things can get a lot, lot worse, and so — knock on wood — hopefully that is not the case for me,” J.P. continued. “Hopefully I’m fortunate enough where we caught it early enough, to start a treatment early enough where we can now start recovery. But I will know more tomorrow once I speak with the doctor.”
Here at PhysicalTherapist.com, we wish him a speedy recovery with determined, empathetic physical therapy team in his corner. Please find the original story, HERE.
