Breana Richardson, SPT is an Alabama native and a third year Doctor of Physical Therapy student at Alabama State University. She graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2017. Growing up, Breana trained in several styles of dance, such as ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and hip hop and became interested in the human body, how it works and heals, and knew that she wanted a career where she could help and interact with people. She went through a few choices before discovering and finding a passion for physical therapy. Breana is a student member of the American Physical Therapy Association, and serves as her cohort’s class president. She is also a student Board member of the National Association of Black Physical Therapists, where she has served as Membership and Social Media committee chair for the past 2 years. Breana created the Instagram page, Physical Therapists of Color in 2018 to fill the need for increased diversity and visibility of BIPOC in the profession. Over the years, the page has grown to a community of over 6,000 followers. Breana is keeping an open mind throughout the rest of her program, but has an interest in working in the inpatient rehabilitation setting, working with the older adult population, and has recently started to consider travel PT.
