General Program Description
The Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program is offered in Tulsa, Oklahoma on the University of Oklahoma Schusterman Center campus and in Oklahoma City on the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Campus (OUHSC). The professional program consists of 108 semester hours of sequenced, integrated didactic and clinical courses presented by full-time faculty and numerous adjunct faculty. Didactic courses are offered on the OUHSC) in Oklahoma City and in Tulsa. Graduates of the physical therapy program are prepared to practice as generalists.
Clinical Experiences
Students are involved in clinical practice during each semester of coursework, and they participate in four clinical education courses during the 3-year program. Clinical experiences are integrated with and complement the information students acquire in the didactic portion of the program, and their degree of involvement in the clinic reflects their current level of professional development. From the first experience in the clinic to the last, the courses develop students’ abilities to analyze situations and make appropriate clinical decisions, use a client-centered approach that also addressees the health care system in which the student is practicing, and acquire or develop science-based rationale for their interventions. By graduation, students will have completed over 30 weeks of clinical experiences in all major areas of physical therapy practice.Enrollment

Application deadline is February 1. An admission profile is developed for each applicant. Major components are: cumulative grade point average (GPA) and science GPA; performance on the GRE written essay; and demonstration of teaching, leadership, or work-related abilities. Course requirements for application to the Department of Physical Therapy include (must be successfully completed or be in the process of completing with graduation occurring prior to start of the program): a bachelor’s degree. For the 2014-2015 year, tuition is $4,619 per semester for residents and $11,665.50 per semester for nonresidents. Residents and nonresidents pay approximately $400.00 per semester in semester fees and $100 per credit hour for additional fees. Books and other educational expenses range from $2,500-$3,000 total. Students are responsible for living and travel expenses during clinical assignments. The Department of Physical Therapy, professional and post-professional programs, is one of five departments within the College of Allied Health. The Department is located at the Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, along with 17 private and public institutes, agencies, and hospitals. The statewide Oklahoma High School for Science and Mathematics is located in the complex. The Health Sciences Center, near downtown Oklahoma City and the State Capital Complex, is 25 miles from the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman. Additionally, there are five junior colleges and four universities within a 30-mile radius. A 90-unit student housing complex is currently available. Students participate in student government of the college and OUHSC as well as in college and campus-wide social activities. In addition to the Doctorate of Physical Therapy, the OU-Tulsa Schusterman Center currently offers three bachelor’s degree completion programs, 16 master’s programs, a doctor of medicine degree, a doctor of pharmacy degree and nine residency programs in medicine. Coursework is identical. Lectures are broadcast from either campus using distance education. Laboratory teaching experiences are conducted by faculty on each campus.
