General Program Description
Our program is a two year asssociate degree program. It is arranged in the 1 + 1 format. All students must complete the required prerequisite courses prior to being admitted to the PTA program housed at Caddo-Kiowa Technology Center. If accepted into the program the final year is completed on our campus. Classes begin mid August and are completed by the first friday of June.
Clinical Experiences
Clinical education is required throughout the program. Settings for clinical practice include hospitals, rehabiliation centers, schools, outpatient clinics, aquatics, home health and nursing homes.
Faculty
There are three full-time faculty members. One faculty member is engaged in clinical practice. The faculty to student ratio is 1:5.3.
Enrollment
The physical therapist assistant program admits 14 students each fall.
Admission
All applicants are reviewed by Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) to determine if prerequisite classes will transfer. The minimum program requirements are: 36 hours of specified prerequisites; cumulative grade point average of 2.7; 3 letters of reference (forms are included in application packet); 40 hours of observation (an evaluation form provided by Caddo Kiowa TC must be filled out by clinician); written response to general questions about goals and interest in physical therapy; personal interview with the selection committee; and documentation of vaccinations. Application deadline is April 1st of each year. Once accepted, PTA course work begins and consists of 29 semester credit hours. Upon graduation, students must pass the National licensing examination to practice.
Outcomes
Ninety one percent of admitted students graduate from the program.
Tuition, fees and financial aid
The average cost of tuition and fees for the academic year is $4,928.55. This does include the fee for the National Physical Therapy Examination. Numerous avenues are available for students requiring financial assistance including grants and scholarships at local, state, and federal levels.
Student life
Caddo Kiowa TC is located in a rural farming community. Ft. Cobb Lake is 5 miles from campus, offering an 18-hole golf course, swimming, skiing, boating, and car races. Mountain climbing, repelling, and camping can be enjoyed 15 miles from campus. Three universities are located within 45 miles of the campus. For the sportsman, hunting can be enjoyed year-round. Caddo Kiowa TC supports the Oklahoma Physical Therapy Association and the American Physical Therapy Association through 100% student and staff membership.No Records Found
