General Program Description
Students are admitted to the PTA Program in the fall for a 4-semester program. They take a total of 28 credit hours of support courses including Anatomy & Physiology, Physics, English, Speech, and Social Science. The PTA courses are 49 credit hours, for a total of 77 credit hours for the program. Interested students should contact the Health Careers Office at the above address for more information.
Clinical Experiences
During the second year of the program, there are three 1-week part-time clinical experiences of 40 hours per week and two 7-week full-time clinical experiences of 40 hours per week. Clinical experiences are primarily within an hour’s drive of the college and include a variety of experiences. Students are required to include both an inpatient and outpatient rotation in both the part-time and full-time clinical experiences.Faculty
There are two full-time faculty and several part-time faculty members. The full-time faculty to student ratio is approximatly 1:24 for lecture courses , and 1:12 for lab courses.Enrollment
Total fall enrollment at Henry Ford Community College is approximately 14,000. The PTA Program admits 28-30 students per year.Admission
Requirements for admission include: 1) a grade point average of 2.8 2) A COMPASS math score of Algebra 46 or better, OR MTH 080 Beginning Algebra with a grade of C or better 3) A COMPASS Reading Score of 84 or better 4) COMPASS scores sufficient for placement into ENG 131 Composition I, or successful completion the required developmental courses 5) Completion of AH 100 Medical Terminology or equivalent with a grade of B- or better 6) Completion of BIO 233 Anatomy and Physiology I or equivalent with a grade of B- or better 7) twenty hours of observation at a PT facility observing a PTA at work- students must submit a letter of verification. Applications for admission are accepted throughout the year. Admission is on a first-applied, first-qualified, first admitted basis. Applicants are notified of their admission status at least 6 weeks prior to the beginning of the program.Outcomes
39% of qualified applicants are offered admission into the PTA Program(3-year average 2011-2013); 81.0% of admitted students graduate from the program (3-year average 2010-2012); 95.2% of the graduates passed the licensure exam (3-year average 2010-2012) and 95% of program graduates are employed (3-year average 2010-2012) within 6 monthes of passing the licensure exam.Tuition, fees and financial aid
Estimated total cost for completion of the PTA Program is $8,976 for in-district residents, $13,518 for out-of-district residents. Costs for out-of-state or international students will be higher than out-of-district residents, please contact the Program Director for this information. Henry Ford College is a commuter college. There is no on-campus housing. The main campus of the college is located in a suburban area. The PTA Program is housed with other Health Careers Programs on the main campus in the Health Careers Education Center. Intercollegiate sports programs are available in basketball, baseball, and volleyball.
