General Program Description
The professional program for post-baccalaureate entrants begins at the end of May; for undergraduate students, the end of June. The program concludes after the final clinical internship 35 months later.
Clinical Experiences
Students participate in a minimum of 42-weeks of clinical experiences. Settings include acute care/orthopedics after the first year, rehabilitation or neurology during the second year and a special interest clinical experience in the final clinical internship. There are more than 500 clinical sites in the United States, representing the spectrum of contemporary physical therapy practice.Faculty
There are 14 full-time faculty members, 2 part time faculty members and more than 45 area clinicians who support the DPT program. Seven faculty members have earned research doctorates, seven faculty members have their DPT degree. Nine faculty members are APTA certified clinical specialists. Many of our faculty regularly participate in clinical practice. The faculty to student ratio is 1:13.Enrollment
Thirty thousand students from all over the world are enrolled at Boston University. Sixty professional students graduate from the physical therapy program each year.Admission
Students are accepted into the combined BS/DPT program as freshmen or into the DPT program as post-baccalaureate entrants. A 3.0 GPA is required of BS/DPT students for matriculation into the professional portion of the program and required for all students in order to graduate from the professional program. Volunteer hours in a physical therapy setting are required for all BS/DPT and DPT students prior to matriculation into the professional program. The GREs are also required for all post-baccalaureate entrants. Prerequisites for post-baccalaureate students include 1 semester of biology (w/lab), statistics, general or developmental psychology, and exercise physiology; 2 semesters (including labs) of chemistry, physics, and anatomy and physiology . BS/DPT students have three years (six semesters) of pre-professional study, which includes all prerequisite coursework. The application deadline for PTCAS is December 15th. 100% of the graduates of our program passed the licensing exam (3 year average) and 100% of our students are employed after graduation (3 year average).Tuition, fees and financial aid
The tuition for the 2014-15 academic year is $45,686. Major additional costs include the first summer (approximately $11,424 for BS/DPT; $17,136 post-bac), clinical education fee ($1428) for each 12 week rotation, and approximately $1,000 for books and expenses per year. Dormitory housing is available for undergraduates. Students in the final 2 years generally live off campus. Undergraduate aid is strong, with 80% of BS/DPT students receiving a form of aid. At the graduate level approximately 80% of DPT students receive some aid.Student life
